Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV)
The Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 (RVSA) introduces a Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV) which will be an online, publicly searchable, database of vehicles approved for use on Australian roads.
The details of each vehicle approved for road use will be entered on the RAV.
RAV Guide and supporting information
The following documents were prepared for Identification Plate Approval (IPA) holders under the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 (MVSA). The documents will assist IPA holders and prospective RVSA type approval holders with the transition to the RVSA:
- the RAV Guide PDF: 1734 KB : provides information for road vehicle type approval holders about how to enter a vehicle on the RAV
- an example XML file XML: 1 KB: created using public data from the Road Vehicle Descriptor
- the RAV enrolment form XLSX: 171 KB: prepared for IPA holders to obtain RAV access.
The Australian Government has extended the commencement date of the Road Vehicle Standards legislation to ensure that governments, manufacturers and importers have sufficient time to prepare for the transition to the new arrangements. The Government will continue to work with all affected stakeholders to agree on and set a new commencement date, which will be no later than 1 July 2021. Further updates on matters related to the Road Vehicle Standards legislation will continue to be posted [here].
As a result of the extended commencement date, enrolment and changes to submitter details for the test Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV) will be paused from 11 October 2019 until a date closer to commencement of the legislation. This enrolment and submitter activity is not expected to recommence earlier than mid 2020. The timeline below outlines key dates.
The test RAV database and RAV helpdesk will continue to be available for already enrolled approval holders and submitters (helpdesk contact details are published in the RAV Guide).
