National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy

On 18 May 2018, the Council of Australian Governments' Transport and Infrastructure Council agreed a framework for developing a 20-year national Freight and Supply Chain Strategy (the Strategy). An integrated national approach making it faster, easier, and less expensive to move goods will help increase the competitiveness of Australian businesses and our standard of living.

The Strategy will build on the outcomes of the recommendations of the Inquiry into National Freight and Supply Chain Priorities.

Freight data

As an early action of the Strategy, the department is looking to address the need of improving freight data collection and visibility, which has emerged as a key priority from the extensive industry consultation to date. To achieve this, the department has initiated a comprehensive research project through the iMove Cooperative Research Centre (iMove CRC).
